Interactive Attention Activity:
1.   Explain briefly about Illuminated Manuscripts and Monasteries and their influence.

2.   Students will then make sketches and works of “illumination” as if they were decorating in sacred books they would want to pass on to future generations.
Information and images:
·      Migration Art
·      Carolingian Art
·      Ottonion Art
·      Romanesque Art

Students will need to be able to explain what insular art, migration art, Carolingian art, Ottonion art and how they manifest into the Romanesque historical period.
Discussion Questions:
Why would Illuminated Manuscripts by Monastics have so much influence into Romanesque Art?
How have you seen particular schools of thought, religious ideals or philosophies during this historical period influence art today?
Artistic Prompt:
If you were going to continue an artistic pattern or idea throughout your life and wanted it to continue after you died what would it look like?  Create that pattern or idea!
